Cova Budapest at the Matild Palace

Founded in 1817, Cova has embodied the excellence of Italian elegance, craftsmanship and refined hospitality for more than two centuries. The venerable brand, which started out in Milan, has now opened in Budapest too. In the historic building of the Matild Palace, two great coffee-house cultures meet: Italian tradition and Hungarian heritage.

The founder, Antonio Cova, envisioned an elegant, lively social venue, which soon became one of Milan's most important cultural salons, right next to the Teatro alla Scala. Artists, composers, aristocrats and intellectuals gathered here to share their ideas. From the very beginning, the venue stood out for the quality of its creations and for a gastronomic approach combining style and tradition.

After the Second World War, the Maison moved to Via Montenapoleone, in the heart of the Quadrilatero della Moda, further strengthening its ties with the world of luxury, design and the Italian lifestyle. Joining the LVMH group in 2013 further enhanced the brand's international standing; today it is present at more than 35 locations worldwide.

Two coffee-house cultures meet in Budapest
Cova's Budapest opening is far more than the launch of a new international venue: it marks the meeting of two great European traditions. The Italian art of living, defined by elegance, balance and attention to detail, finds a natural kindred spirit in Budapest. And the meeting place of the two coffee-house cultures is the Matild Palace, whose history is closely linked to the city's cultural life.

“In Italy, a morning coffee, a business meeting or an evening aperitivo can all become a moment of quality and beauty. Budapest's cultural heritage and historic coffee-house tradition connect naturally with this philosophy,” said Paola Faccioli, CEO of Cova.

“The arrival of Cova is both a tribute to Budapest's coffee-house heritage and the beginning of a new chapter in the history of the Matild Palace. Two great European coffee-house cultures meet here, in a venue that has always been a place of conversation, connection and community life,” said Serkan Hüsünbeyi, General Manager of the Matild Palace, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Budapest, on the occasion of the opening.

Hospitality from morning to evening at Cova Budapest:
• the morning begins with the ritual of Italian coffee and freshly baked treats;
• lunch celebrates iconic dishes of Italian cuisine and their seasonal interpretations;
• the afternoon is devoted to the art of tea;
• and the evening brings the atmosphere of the Milanese aperitivo to the heart of Budapest.

The counter showcases the brand's iconic cakes, pralines, chocolates and the famous panettone, made according to a tradition of more than two centuries.

The kitchen is led by chef Tonio Greco, whose philosophy reflects the same values that have defined Cova for more than 200 years: uncompromising quality, craftsmanship and impeccable attention to the guest experience.
