Time Out Market Budapest opens this year on the first floor of the historic Corvin Palace. The unique concept will bring together the best of Budapest and the surrounding regions under one roof: a carefully curated mix of Hungarian chefs and restaurateurs, exciting drinks and colourful cultural programmes will create a special yet relaxed meeting point on the revitalised Blaha Lujza tér.
On nearly 2,500 square metres, eleven award-winning and up-and-coming local restaurateurs will offer a taste of their culinary art. Three bars, five event venues and around 540 seats will be available to guests, while communal tables, open kitchens and a stylish interior create an atmosphere in which everyone – whether with family, with friends or alone – can feel at home.
The concept is the world’s first food and cultural market curated by experts, bringing the best of the city together under one roof. The first Time Out Market was created in a historic market hall in Lisbon in 2014; since then it has expanded to eleven cities worldwide – including New York, Montréal, Dubai, Barcelona, Cape Town and Osaka – always building on local values. The Budapest market is the first to open in Central and Eastern Europe.
Time Out Market Budapest is located on the first floor of the Corvin Palace, in the city’s Palace District. Originally opened in 1926, the building underwent a complete renovation between 2021 and spring 2023, combining its historic charm with modern standards.
The launch concept of Time Out Market Budapest evokes iconic Hungarian figures such as Blaha Lujza, Jászai Mari, Krúdy Gyula, Jókai Mór and Dreher Antal. Local favourites and rising talents are both represented among the first four outstanding chefs and restaurateurs of Time Out Market Budapest.
Anyukám Mondta: Italian cuisine and family traditions
Anyukám Mondta, based in Encs, has been a leading name in Hungarian gastronomy for thirty years, and now, for the first time, it has found a permanent home in Budapest – at the Time Out Market. In their restaurant, the Dudás brothers, Szabolcs and Szilárd, combine the flavours of Italian cuisine with the warmth of Hungarian hospitality.
From the Margherita DOP pizza to the focaccia with Parma ham and burrata, every dish is backed by carefully selected ingredients, home-made pizza dough and a special family story.
In the Time Out Market Budapest launch campaign, Anyukám Mondta is paired with Blaha Lujza as an iconic, inspiring figure.
Pingrumba: the alluring flavours of the Middle East
Pingrumba started out from Middle Eastern and North African cuisine, and from there went on to explore the Caucasus, travelled as far as India and beyond – from Cairo to Calcutta. At the Time Out Market, they will present, among other things, grilled dishes made from fresh vegetables and quality meats that guests can share and enjoy together.
The menu will welcome guests with vibrant spices, one of Budapest’s most popular hummus and plenty of healthy grilled dishes, among which meat-eaters, vegetarians, vegans and those following other diets will quickly find their favourites.
In the campaign, Pingrumba’s muse is Jászai Mari, the determined and passionate actress, whose strength and character suit the restaurant’s colourful and dynamic world.
101 Bistro: reinterpreting the complex flavours of Taiwan
Inspired by Taipei’s vibrant bistro culture, 101 Bistro brings bold, new-wave Taiwanese flavours to the heart of Budapest. The restaurant draws equally on Chinese, Japanese and Western culinary traditions, while remaining true to the Taiwanese philosophy of seasonality and complexity.
At the Time Out Market, the restaurant will serve its “101 Bistro Favourites” menu, built on popular signature dishes such as the spicy Sichuan Spinach and the tender Shoupa Chicken, long-standing guest favourites.
The historical muse of 101 Bistro was known for his vivid imagination, refined taste and appreciation of culinary pleasures: Jókai Mór, the versatile 19th-century writer.
Szaletly: the flavours of contemporary Hungarian cuisine
The restaurant’s credo is built on respect for gastronomic traditions. Chef Bernát Dániel’s carefully crafted dishes will include crowd favourites such as layered potato bake (rakott krumpli), poppy seed bread pudding (mákos guba) and goulash soup. Classic, homely flavours reach the plate with seasonal, quality ingredients and a modern approach.
Through the figure of Krúdy Gyula, Szaletly evokes the atmosphere of Hungarian bourgeois dining and snapshots of coffee-house life. The restaurant’s approach and its respect for gastronomic traditions all help to bring Krúdy’s bygone world to life.
Dreher Tanksör: tradition revived, unpasteurised
The Dreher name is closely tied to Hungarian beer culture. At Time Out Market Budapest, visitors can taste fresh, unpasteurised beer that evokes both tradition and the pioneering spirit of Dreher Antal, who brought new colour to Hungarian brewing in the 19th century.
Borsos Gergely, managing director of Time Out Market Budapest, said that the food market is being joined by chefs and restaurateurs who are not only professionally acclaimed but also public favourites. The iconic setting, he added, provides an excellent stage for gastronomy and culture to merge into a shared experience, and for guests to discover Budapest’s vibrant, diverse world.
