Day Holiday turns 30

Was the summer of 1995 as hot as this year’s? Probably not, but there was no shortage of excitement back then either. Thirty years ago, too, plenty of interesting events made headlines around the world.
• Germany’s Steffi Graf wins the Wimbledon title for the sixth time, while in the men’s event American Pete Sampras triumphs for the third year in a row.
• The first International Sports Journalists’ Day is celebrated, commemorating the founding of the International Sports Press Association (AIPS) in 1924.
• Shaggy releases his third studio album, “Boombastic”, which wins the Grammy for Best Reggae Album. Enrique Iglesias bursts onto the international scene with his first album.
• Princess Stephanie of Monaco marries her bodyguard, Daniel Ducruet, in Monaco.
• Forbes magazine announces that Bill Gates is the world’s richest person, with a fortune of USD 12.9 billion – and he has been a regular on the list of the world’s wealthiest ever since.
