This summer, too, the Hungarian National Philharmonic Orchestra invites audiences to a special musical experience as part of the “Beethoven Outdoors – 2025” (“Beethovennel a szabadban – 2025”) concert series. The traditional summer evening performances will once again be held in the park of the picturesque Brunszvik Castle on three Saturday evenings: 5, 12 and 19 July.
The aim of the concert series is to perform Beethoven’s works close to nature, in the open air, yet in excellent acoustic and artistic conditions – just as the composer himself envisaged.
5 July – Intimacy and grandeur: piano concerto and mass
The opening concert features Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 4 in G major and the rarely heard, profoundly beautiful Mass in C major. The soloist in the concerto is the young pianist Kovács Gergely, and the vocal parts of the mass are sung by Kristófi Ágnes, Busa Gabriella, Körmendy Flórián and Cserményi Zsombor. The Hungarian National Philharmonic Orchestra and the Hungarian National Choir are conducted by Somos Csaba.
12 July – Heroes, lyricism and farewell: Falvay Attila’s last concert with the orchestra
The second evening features Coriolan, the Romances in F major and G major, and Symphony No. 4. The violin solos are played by the departing leader, Falvay Attila, who takes the stage with the orchestra for the last time after two decades. The evening’s conductor is Vashegyi György, an outstanding Hungarian interpreter of the Viennese classical repertoire.
19 July – Pastorale and gratitude: symphonies in the spirit of nature
The closing concert features Symphony No. 6 (“Pastorale”), which evokes the relationship between nature and humankind, and the light, energetic Symphony No. 8. The Hungarian National Philharmonic is conducted by Farkas Róbert, principal conductor of the MÁV Symphony Orchestra.
