After years of comprehensive development, one of Eger's largest hotels, Hunguest Flóra, reopened its doors last December. The four-star hotel of the Hunguest Hotels chain, part of OPUS GLOBAL, welcomes guests with 205 renovated units and a total event capacity of 400 people, next to the Eger Thermal Bath.
Hunguest Flóra is a defining symbol of tourism in Eger and one of the city's best-known and largest hotels. After a renovation lasting several years, the hotel reopened its doors to guests on 18 December.
Previously a three-star hotel, Hunguest Flóra underwent complete modernisation and conversion during the development: the rooms, the communal areas, the reception, the lobby bar and the restaurant were renovated, and the building gained a children's play area and electric vehicle charging stations.
Following the reopening, the now four-star hotel, which previously had 194 rooms, has 205 units, including 166 standard double rooms, 30 superior double rooms and 4 accessible rooms, as well as one junior suite and four standard suites.
The furniture, minibars, in-room safes, televisions and mattresses were replaced in every room of the hotel, and walk-in showers were installed as part of a complete bathroom renovation.
As a result of the development, and with particular attention to the needs of families, 30 family rooms that can take extra beds were also created, and from February qualified entertainers will welcome the youngest guests every weekend in the new playroom.
The hotel also boasts considerable event capacity: three event rooms of different sizes, named after the hóstyák – Eger's historic districts – and able to accommodate a total of 400 people, provide an ideal venue for business events and conferences.
As part of the renovation project, in line with Hunguest Hotels' sustainability goals, the hotel underwent not only interior design changes but also mechanical and energy upgrades. The building was fitted with energy-saving LED lighting, and all doors and windows were replaced.
The outdated cooling and heating system that previously regulated the temperature of the rooms and communal areas has been replaced by a modern, individually controllable heat pump system, and solar collectors have also been installed. For energy-efficient operation, heating, cooling and ventilation are now controlled by a building management system.
“Our four-year development programme, covering 2,000 rooms, has been completed with the Eger hotel,” said Ádám Détári-Szabó, CEO of Hunguest Hotels and member of the Board of Directors of OPUS GLOBAL.
Hunguest Flóra is located next to the Eger Thermal Bath, which hotel guests can use free of charge and without limit during their stay. Following the renovation, a sauna island in the hotel provides relaxation and a wellness experience.
The hotel targets several guest segments and expects lively domestic as well as significant returning international guest traffic in 2025. The reopening of Hunguest Flóra could boost Eger's tourism performance by some ninety thousand guest nights a year, while creating nearly 100 new jobs in the city and contributing to the development of the local economy.
50% of Hunguest Flóra's development budget, i.e. HUF 2,936,250,000, is covered by state funding won under the Kisfaludy Accommodation Development Scheme. The owner, OPUS GLOBAL Nyrt., provided the own contribution required for the project.
As part of the large-scale development programme covering Hunguest Hotels' properties, hotel floor space equivalent to 480 tennis courts was renovated between 2020 and 2024, making it Hungary's largest hotel renovation project.
