The new tenant will operate the four-star hotel with the involvement of the Accor Group, thereby ensuring international-standard services for Debrecen's guests, who are primarily business travellers. The international brand chosen together with the tenant from Accor's brand portfolio is Handwritten Collection.
Debreceni Vagyonkezelő Zrt. (DV Zrt.) has successfully concluded the tender procedure for leasing Hotel Lycium**** Debrecen, as announced at a press conference on 13 February by László Papp, Mayor of Debrecen; Virág Marossy, CEO of Debreceni Vagyonkezelő Zrt.; Frank Reul, Vice President of Development at Accor Eastern Europe; and Sándor Szabó, General Deputy CEO of Szinorg Universal Zrt.
DV Zrt. published its call for tenders for the lease of Hotel Lycium for 10+5 years on 28 October last year. In addition to the lease arrangement, applicants also had to commit to a renovation obligation – worth at least HUF 1 billion – and to bringing an international brand into the operation. The deadline for submitting bids was 20 December, according to the statement sent to Turizmus.com.
After evaluating the three bids received, the board of DV Zrt. made its final decision on the winning bidder on 6 January this year: Szinerty Kft. Szinerty Kft. is a member of the Szinorg group of companies and a wholly owned subsidiary of Szinorg Universal Zrt. The official handover took place on 3 February.
The new tenant will operate the four-star hotel with the involvement of the Accor Group, thereby ensuring international-standard services for Debrecen's guests, who are primarily business travellers. The international brand chosen together with the tenant from Accor's brand portfolio is Handwritten Collection.
Handwritten Collection is one of Accor's midscale brands, like Novotel, Mercure and Tribe. The technical and operational standards of the brand, now making its debut in Hungary, meet the Hotelstars requirements for four-star hotels.
The joint operation, with the involvement of the Accor Group, of the Mercure Debrecen Hotel on Bajcsy-Zsilinszky utca – which opened in 2022, likewise as an investment by a member of the Szinorg group, Bajcsy Invest Kft. – and Hotel Lycium Debrecen – Handwritten Collection will represent significant market potential for the city's business tourism.
Szinerty Kft. has undertaken to complete the renovation of the property, worth at least HUF 1 billion, with the technical content set out in its bid, within 20 months of taking over the hotel at the latest, thereby creating the technical framework for modern, up-to-date operation.
The renovation also includes an energy investment – which will provide cost- and energy-efficient cooling and heating not only for the hotel but also for the Kölcsey Centre and MODEM – to be carried out by Debreceni Hőszolgáltató Zrt., a member company of Debreceni Vagyonkezelő Zrt.
The property development is expected to significantly improve Debrecen's position in the domestic and international competition for conferences.
The hotel closed on 1 February and will remain closed during the renovation, according to its website.
