The Centrál Színház moves to Szigliget in August

This August, the Centrál Színház is taking one play each by two American writers, Neil Simon and Woody Allen, to the Szigliget Várudvar (castle courtyard), directed by Tamás Puskás.

Ahead of its Budapest premiere, Neil Simon’s Tony Award-winning play The Odd Couple (Furcsa pár) will open in Szigliget on 8 August. The American writer’s most frequently performed play could have been a relationship drama, but the comic duo of the two close friends in the story, Oscar and Felix, turns it into an irresistible comedy.

In the play, staged in a new translation by Samu Puskás and Dávid Puskás – which the public can see every evening from 8 to 15 August, starting at 8.30 pm – the lead roles are played by Róbert Alföldi and András Stohl. The other roles are played by Róbert Marton, Attila Magyar, András Mészáros, Bálint Rada, Éva Lili Domokos and Mariann Hermányi.

From 17 to 22 August, Woody Allen’s latest comedy, Neurotics Jamboree (Tiszta őrület), written in 2024, will be on the programme, starring Gábor Hevér, Nóra Parti, Dorina Martinovics, Tamás Szabó Kimmel and Eszter Balla.

Director Tamás Puskás said that the play – in typical fashion for the author – evokes a story from Greek mythology, the beauty contest of the gods. In this autobiographically inspired comedy, Woody Allen sums up what he thinks about the main themes of his career.
