A new chapter begins in the history of one of Budapest’s best-known downtown lifestyle hotels: the complete transformation of voco Budapest D8 has been finished, and it now welcomes guests entirely under the voco™ brand, the dynamically growing premium brand of IHG Hotels & Resorts.
voco is one of IHG’s fastest-growing premium brands, combining international quality standards with distinctive character, attentive, friendly hospitality and contemporary design. True to the brand’s philosophy, voco Budapest D8 has retained its distinctive character throughout the transformation: the hotel’s relaxed, urban atmosphere is complemented by a refined, Scandinavian-inspired interior design concept.
The building thus serves as a stylish base in the heart of the city, within easy reach of the capital’s iconic sights, for modern explorers who want to discover the authentic face of Budapest.
The completely renovated lobby and restaurant areas were designed by the Finnish interior design studio Vertti&Co. The concept creates bright, spacious communal areas as well as more intimate spaces for retreat.
Subtle shades of grey, stucco-painted wall surfaces, warm wood and clean architectural lines create a modern yet homely atmosphere. The lobby’s capacity has also been increased, and the reimagined bar further strengthens its role as a communal meeting point. The aim of the design was for the communal areas to be places for relaxation, connection and shared experiences, while also reflecting the vibrant energy of Budapest.
The playful character of the voco brand is reinforced by bird motifs that appear throughout the hotel’s design, which also help guests find their way around the building. The bird symbols associated with individual spaces – including the finch, the owl and the flamingo – have become defining elements of the hotel’s visual identity.
voco Budapest D8 welcomes guests with a total of 137 modern rooms in cosy, standard and premium categories, as well as rooms with terraces. The bright, warm-toned interiors, elegant bathrooms and well-thought-out functional solutions meet the needs of both business and leisure travellers. The voco brand also places particular emphasis on a restful night’s sleep, which played a key role in the design of the rooms.
As part of the development, the hotel’s gastronomic offering has also been significantly renewed. The fully refurbished kitchen now operates with a stronger food & beverage concept, expanded storage capacity and a show-kitchen service counter. In addition to breakfast, the restaurant also serves bistro-style dishes from noon, allowing it to play a more active part in the everyday life of the neighbourhood. This is further enhanced by the new terrace on Dorottya utca, which connects the hotel even more closely with the vibrant life of downtown Budapest.
The renewal of the hotel, built in 2017, fits well into Budapest’s constantly evolving premium tourism offering. As part of IHG’s global sales and loyalty programme network, voco Budapest D8 further increases the visibility of the Hungarian capital in European and overseas markets, while offering a guest experience that brings travellers closer to the real atmosphere and everyday rhythm of Budapest.
“Our aim with the development was to create a hotel that is competitive internationally yet has a friendly, informal atmosphere, closely connected to the buzz of Budapest and the expectations of today’s travellers. In recent years, Budapest has become one of Europe’s most exciting city destinations, and voco Budapest D8 is an ideal starting point for those who want to discover not only the best-known sights but also the authentic, local face of the city. Thanks to voco’s guest-centred, friendly approach, our guests can feel at home from the moment they arrive,” said Nehéz Tamás, General Manager of Verno House, Vignette Collection and voco Budapest D8, who is responsible for the operation of IHG’s two brands in Budapest.
