The most exciting spring gastro programme at Lake Balaton is on its way

Gastronomy
Taste Balaton

Sourdough bread, macaron, fermentation and pizza workshops, brunch combined with morning yoga, wine dinners with music, hikes, cycling discoveries, cakes and perfumes… – all around Lake Balaton in early spring.

Once again this year, the organisers have teamed up with a selection of the region's year-round restaurants. At the more than 20 main venues, they are preparing not only special programmes but also a “Taste Balaton menu” composed especially for the event – so anyone who wants a taste of a restaurant's essence can now do so in this clever format.

In addition to the main venues, the festival organisers are also preparing further programmes at additional venues (wineries, patisseries, cultural institutions); it is worth browsing the website, where everyone can put together their own festival.

One of the festival's key messages is involvement and strengthening personal connections. Over the ten-day series of events, there is a chance to meet the chefs of Balaton restaurants and to get to know not only Lake Balaton but also its hosts from a new angle. It is a true meeting point between guest and host, while participants can also deepen their culinary knowledge.

That is why this year the organisers are welcoming visitors to Lake Balaton with even more workshops than in previous years, between 6 and 15 March. To name just a few: there will be sourdough bread and pizza-making workshops, and we can learn the tricks of making macarons, chocolate, homemade pasta and gin and tonic. Those with a sweet tooth can choose from several cake-making workshops, and fans of free-from desserts will not be left out either. A unique opportunity is that during the festival, those interested can try their hand as chefs in several restaurant kitchens: they can join the kitchens of A Konyhám Stúdió 365 and Villa Kabala for a day.

Fans of active holidays will also find plenty to enjoy. Several restaurants are organising morning yoga combined with brunch, there will be cycling tours again, and great travellers and adventurers will be entertained by the Asian adventures of Gábor Rakonczay (at Villa Chez Les Amis) and Tomi Barabás (at Borbarátok). Those interested in psychology can gain insight into the mysteries of the mind at a talk by Dr Kristóf Moldován and Dr Younes Beghdadi, and psychiatrist Dr György Bánki will also welcome guests together with Sarolta Dobray at an intimate evening. There will be several International Women's Day events, which are already a festival tradition, as is the talk Gaszto & Nők & Balaton (Gastro & Women & Balaton) at Kalóz Strandbisztró.

Other programmes include Cook with the Chef! Flavours and inspiration with Gabi Szikra; László Lakatos and the dinner of humour; a vegan gastro experience at Lake Balaton; a steak-grilling workshop with Ádám Mede; and a Wine & bonbon tasting with chocolate making.
