Variety is one of the most diverse genres of classic entertainment, in which the different acts, dance, song and humour follow one another yet come together as a single experience. It does not tell one story but works on the audience through acts that build on each other. Budapest Varieté reinterprets this tradition, integrating the genre’s essential elements into an evening accompanied by an exclusive dinner.
Built on the roof garden and decorated inside with wooden ornaments, mirrors and burgundy velvet, the structure is an exclusive Spiegelpalace – a mirror palace – that creates a distinctive atmosphere: the meeting of the city panorama and the world of the stage gives the evening a special feel. The layout of the space enhances this experience further. The almost 360-degree auditorium, with a central stage in the middle and a catwalk linking it to a further stage area, means that the production can be experienced from every direction, removing the traditional distance between auditorium and stage – according to a press release sent to Turizmus.hu.
The evening is based on the dinner & show format: the dinner and the performance complement each other to form a whole. The programme begins with dinner courtesy of VakVarjú restaurant and Budapest Party Service, followed by a show in two acts.
The menu covers a range of flavours, from classic meat dishes to vegan options, with a strong visual emphasis. The dinner, however, is not a compulsory part of the experience.
The production Vegas a Show is a reinterpretation of classic variety and revue: with international artistes, acrobats, dancers, singers and comedians and spectacular choreography, it creates the atmosphere of a true Las Vegas revue show. Rather than following a linear story, it is built from a series of interconnected acts and scenes, with the emphasis on spectacle, atmosphere and humour.
The project is led by Richter Szebasztián and Eötvös Krisztina, who come from multi-generational circus backgrounds and have long been working to re-establish the genre in Hungary.
