A shift in attitudes towards eating habits is gaining ground among German consumers. According to a recent survey, nearly half of the population is actively reducing their meat consumption, favouring plant-based alternatives.
According to a recent study, 46% of consumers in Germany are actively cutting back on meat. Demand for plant-based products has risen sharply, helped by an ever wider product range, according to an article in Store Insider.
As the article states, “according to a study conducted by YouGov on behalf of ProVeg International, purchases of plant-based products rose significantly in Germany last year. In 2024, sales grew by 5%, thanks to the increased presence of these products in discount stores and drugstores.”
Around 22% of respondents consider plant-based dairy alternatives a realistic substitute for animal products, an increase of 6% on the previous year.
One possible reason for the reduction in meat consumption is that manufacturers are investing more and more in producing plant-based foods and doing everything they can to adapt to the increased demand.
