Reviving a tradition: Gundel Restaurant takes to the dance floor from April

Gundel Restaurant dance evening

Music and dance once played an important role at Gundel alongside gastronomy. This spring, social buzz returns to the spot next to the Zoo: from April, the restaurant team is bringing the old traditions back to life and relaunching its series of music and dance evenings.

The evenings not only tempt participants onto the dance floor but also offer a cultural experience: ball etiquette, dance history and even the legends of Gundel’s 130 years all feature. At each evening, dancer Keleti Andrea teaches those interested the basics of a different dance, so even beginners will have nothing to fear on the dance floor. Host Lukács Zsolt guides guests through the mysteries of ballgoing and dance history, including the evolution of food, dress and music. The series is primarily aimed at people over 30 who are looking to have a good time.

The first music and dance evening will be held on 23 April 2025, and the series will then continue on the last Wednesday of every month. Planned dates: 28 May, 25 June, 30 July, 27 August and 24 September. In the warmer months the venue will be the Gundel Kert garden, while in cooler weather it will be the restaurant’s interior. Magyary Jenő, Managing Director of Gundel, told us that participation is free, but booking a table in advance is advisable. Of course, dancing at the evenings is not compulsory – those who simply want to take in the bustle are also welcome.

The evenings also serve as preparation, as next year Gundel will hold the first Gundel Ball, intended to become a tradition, where those who have practised the steps beforehand will be able to take to the floor with confidence.
