This year’s Classic Car Show & Expo in Szeged will showcase around 150 iconic Mercedes-Benz vehicles of different types.
Have you ever seen a Mercedes fire engine, for example? If not, now’s your chance. Following the great success of the event, which debuted last year, the organisers are presenting an entirely new selection from Mercedes’ more than 100-year history this year – with the exception of a few classic favourites.
There will be passenger cars, but also special vehicles that have become classics, motorhomes, commercial vehicles and even a fire engine. The largest Hungarian gathering of iconic Mercedes cars will take place on 10–11 May at the Pick Aréna in Szeged.
Last year, for the first time in Hungary, the public could admire some 100 vehicles of the legendary Mercedes brand together in one place, in Szeged. Due to the great interest, iconic Mercedes cars will line up again this year, including models the Hungarian public has never seen before.
“Even we find it incredible that last year we managed to bring together 100 such rarities for the exhibition, and it was such a success that new owners and collectors came forward this year, so the public can see an almost 100 per cent new collection this year,” said the organisers, who have already highlighted a few curiosities.
The Mercedes-Benz w100 Pullman to be seen in Szeged was bought in 1965 by a German industrial magnate, who drove it for 15 years. Courtesy of HK Enginiering, one of the world’s leading Mercedes-Benz restoration companies, the event will feature a Mercedes-Benz 300sl “Rubirosa”, named after its owner, Dominican diplomat and racing driver Porfirio Rubirosa. The Mercedes-Benz w126 1000sel luxury limousine, used by German Chancellor Helmut Kohl among others, was part of the German diplomatic fleet between 1986 and 1992; it was then bought by a German collector and passed to a Hungarian collector in 2021. The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG coming to the exhibition is one of the few hundred cars fitted with the 6.2 engine of nearly 600 horsepower, and the car was originally presented by Michael Schumacher.
This year, alongside the exhibition, the 1st Szeged Classic Mercedes-Benz Brand Meeting is also being organised, so that Mercedes owners whose cars were not included in the exhibition can also take part in the event and show off their vehicles.
