Most people know Leonardo da Vinci as a painter, yet he was one of the most outstanding engineers, inventors and natural scientists of his age. In his notebooks, he recorded hundreds of technical ideas, many of which became reality only centuries later.
Flying machines, lifting devices, military equipment, bridges and remarkable mechanical constructions bear witness to his extraordinary thinking. Many of these designs come to life in RepTár’s temporary exhibition.
The works on display are the handiwork of Transylvanian master woodcarver Antal Lajos, who built the working wooden constructions based on Leonardo’s original drawings. In recent years the collection has been shown in several countries around the world, and now, uniquely in Hungary, it can be seen at RepTár.
The exhibition offers a special experience for anyone interested in the history of technical progress, the beginnings of flight or Renaissance ingenuity, or who simply wants to get up close to the ideas of one of the world’s greatest geniuses.
