Spectacular light installations and a varied festive programme in City Park

Advent in Városliget

A free light park unique in Hungary and a varied festive programme, including several free events, await families in City Park during Advent.

On the last weekend of November, the grandest Advent season in the history of City Park began, and its highlight is the ensemble of light installations created around the Millennium Háza.

The centre of the festive season in City Park is the Millennium Háza and its immediate surroundings, where visitors are greeted by a meticulously designed, spectacular light show: on arrival, the path leads through the Rose Garden via a real tunnel of light, and the atmosphere is completed by the rose pergola, densely covered with strings of lights.

The site also recalls one of the Liget’s most popular attractions, the BalloonFly observation balloon, which reappears in an unusual form: a miniature balloon richly decked out in Christmas lights and decorations evokes the experience of floating. The park’s Advent decorations are completed by the Zsolnay Fountain dressed in wintry illuminations, offering visitors a unique sight.

During Advent, City Park’s programme includes more than two dozen events, among them Advent sing-alongs, Christmas fairy-tale performances and the popular Santa orienteering run.

The park’s cultural institutions welcome families at eight venues in the run-up to Christmas; this year the House of Music Hungary, the Museum of Ethnography, the Museum of Fine Arts, the ResoArt Villa and the Millennium Háza are joining the series of events with particularly varied festive programmes.

Joining in the Christmas offering, the Liget’s eateries, from the Pavilonkert to the Léghajó kert, welcome visitors with festive treats as well as classic and seasonal dishes.
