Day Holiday looking back

Our look back at the events of thirty years ago is drawing to a close, but we still have a few exciting moments from November 1995 worth remembering:

• The Hungarian Parliament passes the Foreign Exchange Act. This removed the last obstacle to the full convertibility of the forint, opening the country’s doors to the international financial system.
• IBM’s first hard disk drive plant in Eastern Europe is inaugurated in Székesfehérvár.
• Divorce becomes legal in Ireland, where a historic referendum decided to remove the ban on divorce from the constitution.
• A never-before-heard Beatles recording, “Free as a Bird”, brought to life from an old John Lennon demo, is played on the radio.
• Pierce Brosnan dons James Bond’s suit for the first time in GoldenEye.
• The US Space Shuttle Atlantis docks with the Mir space station, delivering a Russian-built docking module.
• Pixar releases Toy Story, the first feature-length animated film made entirely with computer graphics.
