On 10 May, Europe Day on Szabadság tér in Budapest welcomes visitors with a full day of free programmes, including a running race and concerts, also celebrating the 22nd anniversary of Hungary’s accession to the European Union.
From 9:00, the event welcomes visitors with family and educational programmes as well as concerts. The official opening takes place at 12:00 on the Perger István main stage.
One of the highlights of the programme is the now traditional, accessible and free EU Half Marathon over a distance of 21.1 kilometres. The race can be run individually or in teams of two or three.
The main stage programme includes, among others, a performance by Ukrainian artists, dance productions and pop concerts. Budai Pop Duó, Elefánt and Hiperkarma will also perform.
Children’s programmes await on the podium stage, where performers include Buborék Együttes and Veronaki; besides the Majorka Theatre’s show The Salt (A só), families can also enjoy a musical literary programme for children with poet Varró Dániel and Molnár György.
Throughout the event, Hungarian and international organisations, institutions and embassies will present themselves, and through interactive programmes visitors can learn about current issues such as sustainability, competitiveness, security policy, democracy and improving quality of life.
The Europe Day festival is organised by the Representation of the European Commission in Hungary and the European Parliament Liaison Office in Hungary, in cooperation with the National Development Centre and the Municipality of Budapest.
