Fábián Juli memorial concert – House of Hungarian Music

On 21 May 2025, friends and former fellow musicians of Fábián Juli will pay tribute to the work of the singer, who died young, with a personal commemoration combining music and conversation.

The event at House of Music Hungary will break the mould of traditional memorial concerts: beyond her emblematic songs, Juli’s life-affirming, colourful personality will be remembered through the letters she wrote to friends, personal stories and her former belongings – stage costumes, instruments and more. The evening of 21 May also marks the 10th anniversary of the debut of the album Shine, and the organisers will select songs from the album for the programme.

The event will be accompanied by an online auction at which the items in question can be bought. The foundation will use the proceeds of the online auction to fund a call for applications providing financial support to musicians and behind-the-scenes performing arts workers in difficult circumstances – ill or unable to work. With this pioneering initiative, the foundation is reaching out to music-loving audiences and drawing their attention to the hardships of members of the music community in need whose circumstances have changed.

Naturally, some of Fábián Juli’s personal belongings will also go under the hammer, but the auction will also include – among other things – personal items of Rick Astley, as well as a guitar that appeared alongside Fábián Juli at several Random Trip sessions.

The Foundation had this guitar signed by several international stars especially for the memorial evening, so it bears the autographs of Jared Leto of Thirty Seconds To Mars, Rag’n’Bone Man, Paul Kalkbrenner and Sum 41.

The organising and communications partner of the auction is Paloznaki Jazzpiknik. Fábián Juli played an important role in the life of the picnic from the very beginning; Juli’s personality and energy were, and will remain, part of the festival. Every year the festival commemorates its muse in some form – this year through the memorial evening and the initiative supporting musicians. The mission of the Fábián Juli Memorial Foundation is to make donations to musicians, music performers, teachers, composers and other professionals contributing to music productions in the fields of popular music and jazz who are in need and facing an emergency, a crisis or some transitional situation for health and/or social reasons, and to support artists who are permanently or temporarily prevented from practising their art or work because of their social and/or health circumstances, disability or age-related problems.
