DeForma, a boundary-breaking exhibition at the Virág Judit Gallery

Under the title Formabontó DeForma (“Unconventional DeForma”), the Virág Judit Gallery is holding an exhibition and sale of unique, hand-painted porcelain and ceramic works by the DeForma Group.

The exhibition, open until 27 June, presents a selection of works by one of the most important creative communities in Hungarian contemporary ceramic art. The works on display can not only be viewed but also purchased.

The works of Babos Pálma, Bedécs Monika, Benedek Olga, Dobány Sándor, Kádasi Éva, Turcsányi Judit and Vida Judit include decorative objects, tea and coffee sets, and unusual fantasy vessels.

Some hand-painted works can be worth several hundred thousand forints. Many pieces were made using a high-fire process, partly building on the technological traditions used for Zsolnay porcelain.

The members of the DeForma Group have been working together for more than thirty years; their art combines the elegance of early Art Deco with a modern, unconventional approach. The internationally recognised creative community has collected numerous professional awards and accolades over the past decades.

“We love unconventional, modern solutions as well as high quality, and the works of the DeForma Group bring the two together. After the timeless turn-of-the-century marvels of the Zsolnay exhibition, the gallery’s exhibition spaces now belong to contemporary craft artists,” said Kelen Anna, art historian at the Virág Judit Gallery.
