Moxy Downtown Budapest sample room

In the heart of downtown Budapest, on Kazinczy utca, at the centre of the entertainment district and its bustling nightlife, the 283-room Moxy Downtown Budapest is under construction and will open its doors in spring 2026.

During the event, guests were given a tour of the building under construction and shown the two completed sample rooms, whose stylish, edgy design already offers a glimpse of the hotel’s character.

In his speech at the ceremony, Botos Bálint, CEO of Forestay Group, recalled that the property was selected back in 2019. Following a lengthy land purchase process that took three years, and despite the economic difficulties of recent years – the pandemic, the energy crisis and the effects of war – the development is progressing steadily and on a stable budget.

Touring the furnished sample rooms, we learnt that the 283-room Moxy Hotel belongs to Marriott’s youthful, urban international hotel brand, which operates with a concept tailored specifically to the needs of modern travellers. Some of the rooms will be “queen” rooms, while a third will have a twin-bed layout – primarily with Asian travellers and those travelling with friends in mind. There will be suites and rooms with garden access, as well as larger units that can accommodate up to four people.

The sample rooms – two of which have already been fully furnished, so we were able to see them too – feature a design that combines Scandinavian minimalism with industrial elements. The natural wood, modern lighting and practical accessories and design touches – such as a pillow bearing the words “I woke up like this” – already convey the atmosphere of the hotel.

“The project is more than a hotel investment: Moxy Budapest Downtown is a model example of ESG-based urban regeneration,” the CEO emphasised.

A previously unused downtown site – the former building of the Hungarian Dance University – is being transformed into a modern, energy-efficient building that is aiming for BREEAM Excellent certification.

As a result, it could become the second Moxy hotel in Europe and the first in Hungary to hold a fully certified “Excellent” rating, not merely a design-stage one, as well as the second hotel in Hungary to achieve the excellent level from the BRE certification body.

A special feature of the hotel will be its multi-level garden, in which more than 70 real trees, several metres tall, will be planted on the building, and the Kazinczy walkway will also be renewed. A budget of around HUF 200 million has been set aside for the landscaping.

Energy-efficient operation will be supported by a modern building management system (BMS) and a room management system, and environmentally friendly technologies and healthy indoor air are also being prioritised during the development.

Operations will not be entrusted to an external management company: Moxy Downtown Budapest will be run by the Forestay team, which has for years operated Dean’s Home Budapest, a hybrid private student residence and hotel.

The hotel is expected to open its doors in early 2026 and, as an exciting urban experience, will appeal to business travellers and sightseeing tourists alike.
