The latest venue of the Costes Group has opened in the marina at Alsóörs, where traditional, home-style flavours take centre stage.
On the last weekend of May, Ypsilon Étterem by Rácz Jenő opened its doors on the grounds of the Ypsilon Yacht Club in Alsóörs. What makes the new venue special is not only its waterside location but also the fact that chef Rácz Jenő is showing a completely new side of himself – this time home-style flavours take centre stage, without the formality of fine dining, yet with the perfectionism he is known for.
“It has long been a dream of mine to create a place bearing my name where people would not see fine-dining dishes from me, but could taste home-style flavours too. The fact that this has finally come about here, on the shores of Lake Balaton, is a great stroke of luck and down to fate, because this traditional way of dining fits the Balaton region perfectly. I love traditions, and I create while respecting them. Here I would like to make the flavours of our childhood something people can experience again, with a little twist but with respect for tradition,” said Rácz Jenő, who has put together the à la carte menu – which will keep growing over the coming weeks – so that every guest can enjoy a classic multi-course meal. “I would like the soup–starter–main course–dessert sequence to become a habit again. It is not only about the food but also about the time spent together,” the chef added.
Ypsilon Étterem by Rácz Jenő has seasonal opening hours, serving lunch and dinner from Thursday to Sunday, planned for the summer months for now. The café and small shop at the same location serve visitors seven days a week from 8 a.m., whether for breakfast, brunch or simple shopping.
If the concept proves successful, however, the restaurant could become a permanent fixture on the Balaton food map in the longer term.
