Star Wars Day, Zsolnay Quarter, Pécs

Droids hum, lightsabers flash, Imperial walkers rumble: on 6 September the Star Wars universe comes to life once again at the Zsolnay Cultural Quarter in Pécs. The 3rd Pécs Star Wars Day welcomes fans for a whole day with spectacular demonstrations, special exhibitions and stage programmes.

This year marks twenty years since the release of the third instalment of the Star Wars saga, Revenge of the Sith, and it is also the focus of the event in Pécs. Visitors can once again meet iconic characters of the Empire and the Rebels, costumed groups, droids and life-size sets.

Programmes follow one another all day on the stage of the Pirogránit Udvar. The audience can watch a spectacular lightsaber duel: the Hérosz útja team recreates Anakin and Obi-Wan’s iconic battle on Mustafar. Participants can then learn the basic principles of creating fight scenes.

Poster artist Simon Zoltán introduces himself, the editors of Rebo.hu give an account of the Star Wars Celebration in Japan, aerospace and space industry expert Sipos Attila (4iG Space and Defense Technologies) offers a glimpse into the technologies of the future, and the audience can meet the makers of the fan film Star Wars: Vader – Egy Rajongói Film. The Hungarian voices of Padmé Amidala and Captain Rex, actress and voice actress Zsigmond Tamara and actor and voice actor Berzsenyi Zoltán, will also be there.

There will be two costume parades during the day with some 50–60 participants, one of the most spectacular highlights for visitors.

The 501st Legion, the Rebel Legion, the Mando Mercs and The Force Alliance will parade through the Zsolnay Quarter. Visitors can see R2-D2, BB-8 and Chopper up close, and admire the AT-AT Imperial walker and a TIE fighter cockpit under construction. The spaces of the Zsolnay Quarter will host lightsaber and scale-model exhibitions, LEGO collections, board games, a craft corner and 3D printing, as well as paintings by Uhlár Mária.

This year, too, the organisers are supporting a good cause with the proceeds of the raffle: they will help fund the medical treatment of Sági Dominik from Baranya.
