Szeged's first design hotel and its newest pride, the four-star Science Hotel, has been welcoming guests since June 2015.
Conceived in an eclectic style, the hotel lies in the heart of the city centre, on Petőfi Sándor sugárút, just a few minutes from the centre of Szeged's scientific life and from the historic city centre. A genuine novelty, the design hotel – with 43 distinctively styled rooms and a conference room, modern furnishings and technology – was designed with the business partners of local companies, Szeged's scientific community and its members in mind.
In 2016, in New York, the Science Hotel received the Gold Key Award – the “Oscar” of hospitality design – in the Best Lobby Budget/Focused Service category. The uniqueness of the hotel concept and the harmony of science and comfort played an important part in the award. The light fittings reminiscent of molecular structures, the chalkboards between the bookshelves and the book-patterned wallpaper, the staircase carpet evoking printed circuit boards and the green cascade of characters on the glass wall bordering the staircase all serve to convey this world of ideas.
