On the last weekend of April, Hungary’s newest gastro-cultural community space opened, inviting visitors to enjoy civilised entertainment, get-togethers and gastronomic experiences.
Miskolci Soho was made possible by a private investment of more than HUF 1.5 billion. As a result, a previously neglected car park has been transformed into a vibrant community space where quality gastronomy, music and stylish surroundings come together. The new beating heart of Miskolc is also the city’s latest tourist attraction, fully satisfying the needs of tourists looking for civilised nightlife.
The aim of the new gastro-cultural community space, which is free to visit, is to provide residents and visitors alike with a place to meet and relax, whether over a coffee, a glass of wine or an evening concert. Miskolci Soho offers a clean, safe, bright and friendly setting, where cultural programmes play a prominent role alongside gastronomic specialities. Late in the evening – out of consideration for local residents – the atmosphere of the space changes, quieter, more intimate conversations take over, and a permanent light show adds colour to the scene.
When a foreigner or a friend comes to Miskolc, they start straight away in the city centre. The strength of a city is always shown by the quality of its centre. Two or three years ago, when we completed our fifth block of buildings, my friend Zoltán Kovács and I decided to do something with this area, said Dr László Hajdú, who came up with the idea and is managing director of Expert Holocor Kft.
Others who helped create the space include Ádám Lipták (Melon Café & Bar), Orsolya Farkas, Szilárd Szakács, László Vass (Rockabilly Chicken) and Tamás Bárczi (A Leves és Burger, Fröccsterasz), all local patriots who want to stay in Miskolc and make a difference for the city.
Located on the public space bounded by Széchenyi utca, Szentpáli utca, Régiposta utca and Kazinczy utca, the new community space could now become one of the city’s most exciting meeting places, further strengthening Miskolc’s place on the domestic tourism map.
