FŐKERT staff have renewed the lighting of the fountain in Feneketlen Lake, which during the summer delights passers-by with decorative illumination every evening between 21:00 and 22:00.
Located in the heart of District XI in Buda, Feneketlen Lake has been one of Budapest residents' favourite places to unwind for many decades. The park surrounding the roughly 4.5-hectare body of water is important not only as a recreational area but also as one of the capital's iconic urban landmarks. The lake's special atmosphere is further enhanced by the Church of St Emeric (Szent Imre-templom) rising on its shore, the area's defining sight.
Legend has it that the lake got its name – feneketlen means “bottomless” – because when it formed, no one could determine exactly how deep it was, although in reality it was created on the site of a former brickworks' clay pit.
Today, Feneketlen Lake is one of Újbuda's most popular community spaces, attracting locals and tourists alike all year round.
Thanks to the new decorative lighting, the jet of water rising high in the middle of the lake becomes a spectacular feature evening after evening, while in the background the towers of the illuminated Church of St Emeric draw a distinctive silhouette. The improvement may further increase the site's appeal among those who enjoy evening city walks, photography outings and leisure time in the capital.
FŐKERT encourages everyone interested to discover the renewed attraction on an evening stroll, as it shows one of Budapest's best-known lakes in a new light.
