This year we invited our readers on a special journey through time: week by week, we recalled what happened in 1995. The occasion for this trip down memory lane was the 30th anniversary of the founding of Day Holiday Kft.
Day Holiday Kft. was founded in 1995, one of the first companies on the Hungarian event management market. In 2000 it was the first to bring conference hotels together in an online catalogue, on the konferenciak.hu website. In 2005 the Golden Sun Award was born, which has rated and ranked Hungary’s best conference and wellness hotels ever since. The company itself has won several prestigious awards: in 2018 it received the Business Traveller award for best event organiser, and in 2025 the audience award of the Business Excellence Award in the “Most outstanding programme and ancillary service provider for business events” category.
But let’s not forget the events of December 1995:
• This month saw the first bone marrow transplant in which an AIDS patient received bone marrow from a baboon.
• After a long journey of 3.7 billion kilometres, the Galileo space probe arrived at Jupiter, opening a new chapter in the history of planetary exploration.
• Flossie, the British domestic cat, was born; she later entered the Guinness Book of Records as the world’s oldest cat.
• And this was the month in which the name “euro” became official, which has since become one of Europe’s most important symbols.
We hope you enjoyed accompanying us on this journey into the past and that it has enriched you with many interesting, surprising or nostalgic stories. Thank you for joining us – and here’s to the next chapter!
