According to the latest figures from the Mátraszentistváni Sípark, more than 6,000 guests visited one of the country’s most popular ski areas during the winter holidays, making the most of the excellent conditions.

Thanks to the combination of natural conditions and a modern snowmaking system, conditions in the Upper Mátra are currently ideal, and this is reflected in the visitor numbers.

The winter holidays in figures: more than 5,000 skiers
According to the Mátraszentistváni Sípark’s figures, interest in skiing in Hungary was exceptional during the winter holidays. On the days of the school holidays, more than 5,000 ski passes were sold to people keen to hit the slopes. Including companions, grandparents and day-trippers seeking some fresh winter air, the number of visitors exceeded 6,000.

These numbers clearly show that skiing is no longer the preserve of trips abroad: a large proportion of Hungarian families choose nearby, easily accessible Hungarian slopes offering quality services to spend the holidays actively.

“We find that as soon as real winter and snow arrive in the towns, people immediately turn towards the mountains. The thousands of guests we welcomed over the winter holidays are clear feedback: there is huge demand for quality skiing at home. Our team is working to make the most of the current snowfall and provide immaculate slopes in the coming weeks as well,” said Kőrösi Péter, managing director of the Sípark, reviewing the start of the season.

The Sípark’s visitor numbers are also a positive sign for the national economy: skiing in Hungary is a real alternative to trips abroad, and is particularly well suited to families with young children, as well as beginners and those still practising. During this busy period, thousands chose Hungarian slopes instead of travelling hundreds of kilometres, so tourist spending stayed within the country, providing work for accommodation providers and hospitality businesses in the region.
